- Laura Stevenson’s chilly new album is smooth, euphonic, and relentlessly intimate. Truly a revelation.
- Weyes Blood’s new album Titanic Rising is a cinematic masterpiece. An unbelievable feat of sweeping everythings, it is easily one of the best albums of 2019.
- Priests is back with a solid new album. It’s a different direction for the band. Lyrically, they’ve gone more literary and symbolic. Sonically, it doesn’t hit as hard as it used to. The glaring lack of chops in guitar and drums becomes apparent because of this. It’s still good, I guess. But it’s not really punk anymore, which I loved about them, and is why I own two of their official merch shirts.
- Ages and Ages is neat. This album is fine.
- When I was in Chicago a few months ago, I met someone who loved PUP. Like, it was one of their favorite bands. I turned them on to Japandroids, whom I felt paralleled much of the sensibilities of PUP. PUP’s new album rivals the best output of Japandroids. I really, really enjoyed it.
- Not really my favorite type of pop, but a solid pop record nonetheless. I prefer Maggie and Sigrid’s brand of pop, personally.
